H.R.9844 DELIVER Act of 2024
Representative Joseph Morelle (D-NY-25) sponsored and introduced the DELIVER Act of 2024 (H.R. 9844) with a cosponsor on September 25, 2024. This bill is intended to provide tax relief for individuals delivering meals for charity.
The act would amend the Internal Revenue Code to increase the charitable mileage rate for individuals delivering meals to homebound elderly, disabled, or at-risk individuals. If passed, the mileage rate for the aforementioned charitable activities would match the standard business mileage rate set by the IRS. This would offer greater financial support for volunteers supporting their community.
The hope is that this legislation would encourage more volunteer participation in meal delivery programs.
Shortly after being introduced, this bill was referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means. It is widely anticipated to pass.
