H.R.9534 The National Constitutional Carry Act

Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY-4) introduced and sponsored the National Constitutional Carry Act with 26 co-sponsors on September 11, 2024. The bill is intended to protect nationwide second amendment rights.

This legislation would allow citizens to carry firearms in all states without getting state-level permits and would eliminate non-federal regulations that impose penalties on carrying firearms.

Further, the act would nullify any state laws that require fees or other barriers for carrying firearms. Proponents of this legislation assert that those regulations infringe on the United States constitution. Critics have raised concerns around the potential effects of this legislation on public safety.

The National Constitutional Carry Act would cover all US jurisdictions.

Due to widespread opposition, it seems unlikely that this bill will pass. As of now, the bill has been referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary.
